Match Preview: Monterey Bay FC Returns Home to Host New Mexico United
SEASIDE, California (Friday, August 7, 2026) – Monterey Bay FC returns to Cardinale Stadium on Saturday, August 8, for a Western Conference matchup against New Mexico United. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. PT as the Crisp-and-Kelp return home following a midweek road trip to El Paso.
Monterey Bay enters Saturday’s contest looking to respond in front of its home supporters following Wednesday night’s match against El Paso Locomotive FC at Southwest University Park. With the Western Conference playoff race continuing to take shape, the Crisp-and-Kelp will look to take advantage of their return to Cardinale Stadium and secure three important points.
New Mexico United arrives in Seaside as one of the Western Conference’s in-form sides. United enters the weekend unbeaten since June 20 and most recently earned a 1-0 victory over Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, with Maliek Howell scoring the decisive goal. New Mexico will look to carry that momentum into Saturday night’s matchup as it continues its push in the Western Conference.
The contest presents another important challenge for Monterey Bay during a busy stretch of the schedule. The Crisp-and-Kelp will look to remain organized defensively while creating opportunities going forward against a New Mexico side that has proven difficult to beat in recent weeks.
Returning to the Cardinale Stadium faithful provides Monterey Bay with an opportunity to build momentum on home soil and earn a valuable result as the club enters the latter stages of the regular season.
Head-to-Head
Saturday’s contest marks the first meeting between Monterey Bay FC and New Mexico United during the 2026 USL Championship season. The two Western Conference sides have produced several competitive meetings since Monterey Bay joined the league in 2022, and the Crisp-and-Kelp will look to use home-field advantage to secure three points in the first matchup of this season’s series.
