Christian Volesky Named USL Championship Player of the Week
SEASIDE, Calif. (Tuesday, April 11, 2023) – Monterey Bay F.C. forward Christian Volesky has been named the USL Championship’s Player of the Week for Week 5 of the 2023 season following an impressive performance in which Volesky recorded two goals and an assist in Monterey Bay’s 4-2 win over New Mexico United at Cardinale Stadium. He is the second MBFC player to earn Player of the Week honors this season.
Volesky’s three total goal contributions on the night included a beautifully flicked-on header assist to Sam Gleadle for the initial go-ahead goal. He then bagged the game-winning goal five minutes into the second half when Mobi Fehr threaded the needle to play him in behind the New Mexico defense before capping the night off with a second goal of his own assisted by a Gleadle backheel in the 71st minute.
The Henderson, Nevada native scored the 53rd and 54th goals of his career in the match, his first two regular season goals of the 2023 campaign after crossing the 50-mark last season. In the game against New Mexico, Volesky connected on 12 of his 18 passes, won 10 total duels, drew two fouls, and blocked a shot. In addition, he scored on both his shots on target for a 100% shot accuracy on the night. Including the Club’s midweek U.S. Open Cup match against Central Valley Fuego FC, Volesky has now contributed to five of the Union’s last seven goals in all competitions.
