Sporting Director & Head Coach Frank Yallop
On winning the home opener:
“It’s very important. Conceding three goals is never good, but scoring five is amazing. I’m really happy with the guys’ performance. Our spirit was great, we kept it going and saw it through in the end. For us, I’m really happy. It was a great start to the season. We’re looking forward to next week now.”
On conceding three goals:
“Adversity builds character. We conceded goals at times that I wasn’t happy about, and I’m sure the players weren’t either. But we kept going and the fifth goal kind of sealed the game for us. I’m really happy for Chase [Boone], to wiggle his way in and get a shot off to score that goal to give us a little bit of breathing room. They scored to make it 5-3, which is not comfortable for anybody, but scoring that amount of goals in any game is not easy to do. I think tonight was a very good example of our attacking prowess.”
On the depth of the bench and order of substitutions:
“We want to make sure guys don’t play too many minutes, like Sam Gleadle. We have a game next weekend and Sam is an important player for us, so making sure he’s fit and ready to go. Obviously bringing Dixon off after his hat trick, which was great. So we’ve got some nice depth. We’ll get a little more once Simon [Dawkins] and James [Murphy] are back. Simon is not healthy right now and for Murph, tonight was his first game in three or four weeks. So it was good to get him back on the field, he’s a good player for us. Once we get everyone healthy and moving forward, we will be a force to reckon with.”
Defender Max Glasser
On earning the start in his professional debut:
“It is unfortunate Grant [Robinson] went down with a hamstring injury, you always want to beat it out on your own, but I have learned from Grant and Morey [Doner], they are both amazing outside backs. Sometimes the cards are in your favor, you get a chance, and I thought I showed well. He’ll be back and healthy and I’m excited to continue working alongside those two.”
On how his professional debut felt:
“It felt great. I got some good time in the preseason, I got some minutes to get a little used to it, but tonight was definitely a different feeling. These were higher stakes. Tackles were flying in, the game was moving really fast, but I am happy with it overall.”
On playing a role in the attack from the fullback position:
“Shoutout to my forwards and the offensive players, it’s not easy to finish. It’s the hardest thing in soccer I’d say. Frank [Yallop] likes his outside backs to get up and down the pitch, have a lot of pace and flip in a good ball. I’ve gotten some time at winger in college this past year, so I’ve got some good offensive stuff I can showcase as well. I think I fit the modern game well.”
On his first professional assist:
“It came off my left foot, which is super funny. I generally play on the right side, so I’ve been working on that a lot this past month. They’ve been coaching me and telling me where I need to put the ball. I just clipped it right over the back post.”
Forward Alex Dixon
On his hat trick performance in his MBFC debut:
“I got a little fortunate with the first one, Gleadle played a ball into me and it took a deflection. I was alert and poked it in. The second one was a great ball by Max [Glasser], I was able to get my head on it. Then the third was the penalty. But most importantly we started the season off with a W, so I’m excited for that.”
On taking the penalty kick:
“Sam [Gleadle] was going to be on it, but Ramiro [Corrales] told me yesterday that I’d be on a pen, so I kind of gave him a shout, took it and it went in. I was happy about that. Normally since he went down I’d let him take it, but he gave it to me since I was on the hat trick, so I am thankful to him for letting me get my first career hat trick and the first one in team history. We’re an unselfish group of guys and I would do the same for him.”
On the team working together well in the attack:
“Max [Glasser] served in great balls, Chase was being active, he is a handful to deal with. We were having success on that side so we just kept trying to exploit it. Hopefully that theme continues throughout the season.”
