Sporting Director & Head Coach Frank Yallop
On the match:
“We can’t finish plays off right now. We had some decent chances first half, I thought the football was good, but we didn’t have any clear-cut chances to score. Having said that, Sacramento doesn’t give you too much. I felt we had a flat spell 20 minutes into the second half when they scored the two goals. I felt that if we had scored the penalty kick, it might have changed the game and given us momentum to drive on to try and get the equalizer. But when you’re 2-0 down against a good team, they make it difficult. They defended well. We had some chances late in the game that maybe could have made a difference. But you got to take it sometimes that the better team won tonight, but I can’t get mad at my guys for lack of effort or vigor. They tried their best to get something out of the match.”
On his message to the team moving forward:
“You can’t get your heads down too much. We weren’t completely outplayed in the game. It wasn’t like they totally dominated the play. They were just more crisp and sharp in the final third then we were. I think they took their chances when they came along, and we didn’t. I think that’s the story of the game. I say that quite a bit here; the game is won in both boxes. If you can’t score, you’re going to struggle to win games, and if you can’t keep it out of the net and they get a decent chance, then obviously it’s difficult to win as well. No lack of effort. We tried our best and did quite well at times. But we weren’t at our best to get a result tonight.”
Forward Alex Dixon
On the match:
“It was a tough game. We put up a good performance, but there were two instances that they capitalized on their chances. We got our chances in the second half, but we couldn’t capitalize on those chances. I think that’s the difference in the game. I think we can keep our heads held high. We battled against a good team. They were the champions in the west last year so I think we build on that and come back stronger next year.”
On the recent stretch:
“We were on a tough run before this stretch, so it showed that we have a lot of character and that we’re always going to dig in and give 100 percent. We have to dig ourselves out of the hole that we are in. I think we can keep our heads held high and try to build off of this in North Carolina next weekend and try to get a good result.”
