Head Coach Jordan Stewart
On the result:
“The message before they went out was to compete and win the game – and we won the game. But I think if you look at the second half, it wasn’t great. Injuries obviously to Miles [Lyons], then Lara, then Luther [Archimède] in the first half as well. It was kind of like juggling. We were trying to figure out subs to bring on, which is obviously never a good sign, especially when this was probably the first week we’ve had everyone back. Disappointed for them guys to pick up injuries. But in the second half overall, they were the better team. The ball loss from us was unacceptable to be honest, so it’s bittersweet. The objective was to get three points, we did, but I think overall the way we want to play and the style of our play didn’t resonate.”
On injuries and the upcoming match:
“It was good to see Diego [Gutiérrez] and Anton [Søjberg] get back in the mix and to see them get some minutes is always nice – they’ve been out for a while. And then Jacob [Muir] as well and other guys that really haven’t got minutes or are just coming back from injuries. It is always good to see them guys back. But it’s a quick turn around. We’ll be back tomorrow to try and assess who’s going to be available for the weekend. Then we’ll prep everyone and try to get as many bodies ready for Saturday. It’s going to be coming very fast.”
Midfielder Diego Gutiérrez
On the match:
“Spokane’s a good team, they’re first in League One, so we knew it was going to be a difficult match coming in. Obviously, we haven’t had the best of form in the USL Championship ourselves. So we knew it was going to be difficult. We know every opponent provides different challenges and we don’t take it lightly. At the end of the day, it’s just something we can look back on and learn from. Just thankful we got the win at the end.”
On his return to the pitch post-injury:
“It’s been a little roller coaster of a ride. At first getting the MRI and thinking I was going to get surgery and be out for the rest of the season then getting a more positive second opinion. I mean the coaching staff, strength staff, and training staff – they’ve all done a really good job with me by helping with rehab and helping me get back on the field. I’m just super thankful for the opportunity and grateful that I’m finally getting my first minutes. Hopefully, I can come back and help the team for the rest of the season.”
On the upcoming match:
“It’s a quick turnaround, there’s a lot to learn from this match. At the end of the day, we got the win, we’ll learn what we could have done better and then it’s a quick turnaround. We have a tough game against OC [Orange County SC] coming up on the weekend right here in front of our fans. At the end of the day, we just got to come out, play well, and get the win.”
