Head Coach Jordan Stewart
On the match and clean sheet:
“The clean sheet was positive. Last time we had a clean sheet was in March so definitely positive in that aspect. They didn’t have a shot on target and they are a good team. Yes they did mix up their lineup because of their game on Wednesday but they have a big squad and they have individuals who can hurt you. The game plan worked. We had about three or four chances that maybe we could have done a bit better in, in those actions. But I can’t fault the guys in this instance because I think for the most part, the gameplan was well executed by the boys. It’s another point, but especially at home you want to turn those one-pointers into three. But getting two points in the last two games gives you momentum when maybe before we would have lost those games. Looking forward, the next game is Oakland and we’re going to go there and try to win that game as well.”
On building upon the squad’s last two performances:
“It’s always a positive that you are able to get a clean sheet and get points. Especially with teams losing around you. Yes you’d like three, but hopefully when we reflect at the end of the season we’ll see that those two points were the difference for us to get into the playoffs. So the clean sheet and then obviously having Tarik [Scott] come on and make his debut. You could see flashes of his technique and his ability going forward and he helped to get their player sent off. A very bright future for us as a team going into the last eight games. We want to keep the momentum and keep the confidence going and then try and turn draws into wins. Last time we were in Oakland we lost, so there has to be a mindset of looking to get some revenge.”
Midfielder Pierce Gallaway
On the match:
“I thought defensively we were really solid. We really limited their chances and any threatening moments behind our defenders. It was just one of those games where we didn’t really get enough going forward. We created some good chances, but I think that will be a focus this week in training – creating more goal scoring chances in the final third. But it was probably our best defensive performance of the season, just limiting their shots on goal.”
On shifting focus to Oakland:
“We’ve got Oakland this weekend – big rivalry game. It’s really cool to play at their stadium in the Coliseum. We know we need to win games and Oakland will be a great opportunity to do that. I think everyone is going to be super focused going into practice this week. We just need to build on the last two draws and our clean sheet tonight and keep moving forward.”
