Head Coach Jordan Stewart
On the result:
“It was a great win, a long time coming. When you look at all of the game, we were very good for the majority of it. Which is something that we obviously wanted to focus on. Not just being good in the first half and then letting things slip. Going from losing to Hartford to New Mexico where we played well in the first half and then going into this game – we know Sacramento is a very good team. They are second at the minute. All in all, the guys were fantastic from the start to the finish. It shows what we can do. When we’re on it, we can have performances like that. Winning and keeping a clean sheet is the way you want to win games. Overall, super happy with the guys and now we go into the final three games continuing to push.”
On Adrian Rebollar’s goal and the defensive performance:
“The first thing I said to the staff was that we looked a little like Barcelona in that goal. But I think what was good about the goal was as the play was developing, people were moving. Tarik [Scott] ended up on the right side, Adrian carried on his run and managed to score his fourth goal of the season. That ties him for most goals he’s scored in his career in a single season so I’m super happy for him. He took a hit to the face later on and it’s probably a bit of a concussion so we’ll see where he ends up going into the Tampa game but the goal was fantastic. What was a bit different from maybe New Mexico was we weren’t taking as many risks at the back. It started from a short ball, and then Charly [Guzmán] cleared the lines and then we managed to win the first ball then Granny [Robinson] got the second ball, ball inside the Adrian, give to Xavi [Gnaulati], out to Tarik with a one-touch layoff for Adrian so yeah, it was a fantastic goal. Super happy for Adrian. He’s a local kid but you can see how he operates and how he works. He works until the wheels are gonna fall off. So I’m super happy for him. And to get a win that was a longtime coming at home in front of our fans is even more pleasing.”
On staying alive with the result:
“The West is crazy at the minute. But listen, we can only control ourselves. Yes we can say that we left it a bit late, but if there’s an opportunity to win games, that’s what we’re going to try to do and execute. Another tough place, going across from the West to the East coast to play Tampa. We know it’s going to be a tough game. But for us, when we get an opportunity to play 90 minutes in the league, we’re going to try to win the game and get three points. It’s just about giving our all and if we produce performances like we did tonight I think we’ll be in a good place at the end of the season.”
Goalkeeper Nico Campuzano
On the match:
“At the point we’re at in the season we know we need to get points. It’s been a consistent theme over the last couple of games that we need to put 90 minutes together. That was the emphasis today and for me that was a real team performance today. Somebody bailed me out on the corner kick, Wes [Fonguck]’s defense on the line, I made my play when I had to. Everyone made their plays when they had to. We played smart, we took risks when we had to, everybody was putting their bodies on the line. It was a full team performance, finally a full 90 minutes. It’s a great feeling getting a clean sheet and a win.”
On his fifth clean sheet of the season:
“Sacramento has really good players on the ball. They are really dangerous on set pieces and in the run of play too. We knew we had to be locked in for the full 90 minutes. We’ve been chasing that type of performance and we finally put it together. It’s good to do this in front of our fans before we leave for Tampa.”
On carrying this momentum into the final three matches:
“The Western Conference is so tight that you never know. We just have to keep this momentum going and keep fighting until the end. We’ve proven that we can compete against anybody. We just have to compete against ourselves now and stay locked in and then we’ll see what happens.”
