Match Recap: Monterey Bay FC Falls 3-1 to Rhode Island FC
PAWTUCKET, Rhode Island (Saturday, August 22, 2026) — Monterey Bay FC fell 3-1 to Rhode Island FC at Centreville Bank Stadium in USL Championship action. The Crisp-and-Kelp responded quickly after conceding the opener, but two second-half goals ultimately secured all three points for the hosts.
Rhode Island struck first, but Monterey Bay answered just 11 minutes later. Ilijah Paul controlled a cross inside the area and laid the ball back for Sebastián Lletget, who finished through the Rhode Island defense to level the match at 1-1. Despite Rhode Island holding a 10-3 advantage in shots, the sides entered halftime even.
The hosts regained the advantage after the break through Hugo Bacharach before Grant Stoneman added another to extend Rhode Island’s lead. Monterey Bay continued to search for a way back into the contest, but was unable to find another breakthrough as Rhode Island secured the 3-1 result in front of a sellout crowd at Centreville Bank Stadium.
Monterey Bay FC will now return home and turn its attention to its next USL Championship match against Sacramento Republic FC at Cardinale Stadium.
