Professional Career
2023 San Diego Loyal SC
Guzmán played his first season in USL Championship after inking a deal with San Diego Loyal SC in summer 2023. The defender started 14 of his 15 matches played for San Diego, including all 120 minutes of the Southern California club’s final playoff game. Guzmán recorded 52 clearances, 51 duels won and 20 interceptions defensively for San Diego, in addition to adding one goal – a game-winner at home on October 1 against none other than Monterey Bay.
2023 Club Querétaro
Guzmán began the 2023 season with Club Querétaro and recorded 380 minutes in 10 matches played before making the move to Southern California, his first move away from Mexico since the start of his professional career in 2011.
2022 Club Deportivo Toluca
Guzmán spent the 2022 campaign with Club Deportivo Toluca, where he played 1,568 minutes in 23 first team appearances. He also made two appearances for Toluca U-20 in August.
2019-2020 Necaxa
Guzmán played 579 minutes across eight appearances for Liga MX’s Necaxa and added a goal and an assist. He also spent time with Necaxa’s U-20 side, recording just under 1,000 minutes in 13 matches played.
2011-2018 Club Atlético Morelia (Mexico)
After developing within the youth system of his hometown team, Club Atlético Morelia, Guzmán made his professional debut for the club in November 2011. Throughout seven seasons with Morelia, the defender spent time on loan at Atletico San Luis, Club Puebla, Club Tijuana and Club Leon. In total, Guzmán made 117 appearances for Morelia, adding 11 assists and eight goals in just under 10,000 career minutes.
International Career (Mexico)
As a teenager, Guzmán represented his home country of Mexico as part of its squad for the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup. Three years later, the defender answered the call to join El Tri’s U-21 side for the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games. In addition, Guzmán won a silver medal with Mexico in the 2015 Pan American Games.
