Match Recap: Monterey Bay FC Completes Comeback Victory Over Orange County SC
IRVINE, California (Saturday, October 3, 2026) – Monterey Bay FC delivered a resilient second-half performance on Saturday night, coming from behind to defeat Orange County SC 2-1 at Championship Soccer Stadium.
The Crisp-and-Kelp found themselves behind just five minutes into the match after Orange County was awarded a penalty. Ousmane Sylla stepped up from the spot and converted to give the hosts an early 1-0 advantage.
Monterey Bay continued to battle through the opening half, looking for a way back into the match. The momentum began to shift just before halftime when Orange County captain Tom Brewitt was shown a red card in first-half stoppage time, leaving the hosts with 10 players for the entire second half.
With the numerical advantage, the Crisp-and-Kelp came out aggressively after the break and were rewarded in the 61st minute. Monterey Bay was awarded a penalty of its own, and Sebastián Lletget calmly converted from the spot to level the match at 1-1.
Just four minutes later, Monterey Bay completed the comeback.
Lletget played a key role once again, setting up Zackery Farnsworth for the go-ahead goal in the 65th minute. Farnsworth found the back of the net to give the Crisp-and-Kelp a 2-1 advantage and cap a remarkable five-minute turnaround.
Orange County pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Monterey Bay’s defence stood firm throughout the final stages. The Crisp-and-Kelp managed the game effectively and protected their advantage to secure all three points on the road.
The victory marks an important response for Monterey Bay following last weekend’s 3-2 defeat to Lexington SC. After conceding early, the Crisp-and-Kelp showed character to stay in the match, take advantage of the opportunities that came their way and complete the comeback.
Monterey Bay now turns its attention to the final stretch of the regular season, carrying the momentum of a hard-earned road victory back into its next match.
