MONTEREY, Calif. (June 30, 2021) – Monterey Bay Football Club (Monterey Bay FC) and Alvarado Street Brewery announced today a multi-year partnership that includes the construction of a beer garden at Monterey Bay FC home matches.
“Beer and soccer have long been a common thread that brings people together of all backgrounds and walks of life,” said Monterey Bay FC Chairman and Owner Ray Beshoff. “We couldn’t be more honored to partner with Alvarado Street Brewery, who has become so much more than just a local brewery. They are part of the fabric of this region, just as we hope to be, by creating a place for all to gather, and celebrate what makes the Monterey region our home.”
The newest Alvarado Street Brewery Beer Garden will be part of the renovations to Freeman Field on the campus of Cal State Monterey Bay. The beer garden is being constructed specifically for the Monterey Bay FC home matches and will be located at the east end of the stadium behind the supporter section. The beer garden will feature a large social area for fans to gather, share a pint, along with space for food trucks, and of course numerous taps pouring the award-winning Alvarado Street beer.

"My ears perked up when I found out about a professional soccer team coming to the Monterey Bay,” said Alvarado Street Brewery Founder J.C. Hill. “When the opportunity arose to meet with Ray and the MBFC team, we certainly didn't hesitate. I think it speaks volumes that the ownership provided a smaller, local brewery the chance to be a part of this project, and we're thrilled to be engaged with the team and share in their vision to make this a truly community-focused venue that will be an exciting destination for locals and visitors alike."
As part of the partnership, Monterey Bay FC and Alvarado Street Brewery will collaborate with fans to create a beer for club. Fans and beer enthusiasts, over the age of 21, may visit the Alvarado Street Brewery in Monterey and sample from four different beers, and asked to vote on their favorite. Fans may also share ideas for an official name for the beer and designs for the beer can. The Monterey Bay FC beer will be revealed in late summer and available for sale at future matches and locally in the region.
Soccer and beer have long been intertwined through its culture and tradition. Since the earliest days of organized games in England in the mid-1800’s, fans would gather at the local pub for a pint, before heading to the field or pitch. Some of these early clubs were even owned by the local pub or brewery. This tradition continues to current times as soccer fans around the world gather at local pubs and breweries before a home match, or for watch parties, as they cheer for their favorite soccer team. The U.S. has seen incredible growth in both local breweries and soccer clubs, as communities look to places to gather and socialize, and take pride in these home-grown entities.
