Monterey Bay Battles Tampa Bay in Interconference Fixture at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg
SEASIDE, California (Friday, August 11, 2023) – Monterey Bay F.C. (7-10-6, 27 points) takes to the skies for an interconference fixture with Tampa Bay Rowdies (11-6-5, 38 points) in St. Petersburg, Florida on Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 4:30 p.m. PT at Al Lang Stadium in Week 23 of the 2023 USL Championship regular season. Live streaming of the match will be available on ESPN+.
Monterey Bay last faced Tampa Bay in its inaugural home finale back on October 2, 2022 in Seaside. After Sam Gleadle scored first in the match to give the Union the early lead, the visitors scored two goals in the second half to win the game 2-1. The Crisp-and-Kelp put a club-record nine shots on frame in the match, but an impressive eight-save outing from Rowdies goalkeeper Phil Breno left Monterey Bay with nothing but frustration on the night. This weekend, the matchup moves to St. Petersburg as the sides will meet for just the second-ever time.
Currently in the midst of the longest winless run in Club history (6L, 1D) and desperate to right the ship, Monterey Bay faces a stern task ahead. Tampa Bay currently sits third in the Eastern Conference table and fifth place in the league overall, though the side is not in the greatest of forms coming into the match itself. In its previous four matches the Rowdies have gone 1-2-1 for four total points, seemingly leaving the door open for Monterey Bay to grab a point or three on its way out.
