USL Championship and Monterey Bay F.C. Announce 2024 Regular Season Schedule
SEASIDE, Calif. (Monday, December 18, 2023) – The United Soccer League (USL) Championship has officially unveiled the full 2024 schedule, including all 34 regular season matches for Monterey Bay Football Club (Monterey Bay F.C.) in advance of its third campaign. With two new teams entering the league, new conference alignments have also been announced.
The Crisp-and-Kelp open the new season on the road in El Paso against Locomotive FC on Wednesday, March 13. The home opener comes three days later, with Monterey Bay set to host the defending USL Championship Title Winners Phoenix Rising FC on Saturday, March 16 at Cardinale Stadium. League newcomers Rhode Island FC come to town on Sunday, March 24, while the Union will face off against North Carolina FC – the other Eastern Conference expansion side – away from home on Sunday, June 16. Meanwhile, NorCal rivals Sacramento Republic FC and Oakland Roots SC will come to Cardinale Stadium on Saturday, June 8 and Saturday, June 22 respectively. The regular season home finale for Monterey Bay will fall on Saturday, October 19 with Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC making the trip to Seaside.
The two new teams joining the league in the East has also resulted in a couple of conference alignment adjustments – FC Tulsa and Memphis 901 FC will officially move to the West to even things out. FC Tulsa’s first trip to Seaside as a Western Conference side is set for Saturday, July 13 with the return match taking place on Saturday, October 26 on the final night of the regular season. On the other hand, Memphis 901 FC will visit Cardinale Stadium for the first-ever time on Saturday, May 11.
Monterey Bay will once again play each team in the Western Conference twice (home and away) and will play each out-of-conference opponent once, with six of those matches taking place in Seaside and six on the road, to make up a total of 34 matches. This season, those matches will take place over 34 weeks (up from 32 weeks in previous seasons) to reduce the number of midweek games. The regular season will conclude on Saturday, October 26. The playoff structure will remain the same from the 2023 season with the top eight teams from each conference qualifying for the playoffs with a single-elimination bracket.
