MONTEREY BAY HOSTS DEFENDING CHAMPIONS PHOENIX RISING FC IN 2024 HOME OPENER AT CARDINALE STADIUM
SEASIDE, California (Friday, March 15, 2024) – Monterey Bay F.C. (0-0-1, 1 point) begins its 2024 home schedule by welcoming the defending league champions Phoenix Rising FC (0-1-0, 0 points) to Seaside on Saturday, March 16. The match will kick off at 7 p.m. PT at Cardinale Stadium in Week 2 of the 2024 USL Championship regular season, presented by Cardinale Automotive Group. Saturday’s match will be broadcast locally via KION on Central Coast CW (35.1 over the air, channel 14 Xfinity), with live streaming available (no subscription required) on CBS Sports Golazo Network via CBSSports.com, the CBS Sports app, Paramount+ and Pluto TV.
Monterey Bay enters its 2024 home opening match on the heels of a respectful 1-1 result in El Paso at midweek. After conceding an early goal due to a miscommunication in the 4th minute of the match, the Crisp-and-Kelp responded positively and largely controlled the remainder of the match. Monterey Bay outshot Locomotive FC 19-7, but were unable to find the back of the net until the 87th minute. Making his MBFC debut as a second-half substitute in the 69th minute, Tristan Trager managed to make an immediate impact both in the match and on his new team by absolutely roofing the equalizer to help the Union secure a point away from home in the season opener.
Now, Monterey Bay F.C. takes on Phoenix Rising FC – the defending USL Championship Title-Winners who are coming off of a 1-0 loss at home to Birmingham Legion FC due to an own goal conceded in the 67th minute – and will look to take the positive result from midweek and turn it into an exciting match at Cardinale Stadium, while also looking for the Club’s first win over the Phoenix side. After making substitute appearances in their MBFC debut on Wednesday, there is potential for both Luther Archimède and Trager to make their first starts in Crisp and Kelp on the weekend.
In the previous contest between the two sides on July 29, 2023, Monterey Bay hosted Phoenix Rising FC at Cardinale Stadium in a match that saw the visitors take all three points with a 2-0 win. Overall, entering this weekend’s fixture, Phoenix currently owns an all-time 2-0-2 record over Monterey Bay, including a 1-0-1 mark here in Seaside.
